The congregation at St Peter’s Walworth are committed to offering music in praise of God for years to come. That’s why we have dedicated ourselves to the task of raising £50,000 to install a high quality organ, which we are confident will contribute to the worship of this community for at least another 100 years.
Music at St Peter’s Walworth
The Organ Appeal is a first stage in our vision to renew, reinvigorate, and widen our use of music in the worshipping community an parish of St Peter’s Walworth and beyond. Our aim is to create the groundwork for introducing a Music Director, who will bring energy and focus to our use of music in worship and enable us to strengthen our choral tradition. We well also be inviting local schools, parish residents, and all interested people to the church for music education days, and developing St Peter’s as a concert venue.

Why a New Organ?
Our original Lincoln organ was damaged when the church suffered a direct hit during the Battle of Britain. The current organ was build by Manders and Co. from a mixture of poor quality and second hand parts from other bombed churches. This organ is now reaching the end of its life, and no longer able to meet the demands placed on it by a thriving church. A survey has confirmed there is a little worth saving other than the original Lincoln case front built in 1825 when Sir John Soane completed this beautiful church.
We have recently been given the opportunity to acquire an organ described by one authority as “one of the finest organs I have played” from the Chapel of Whitelands College, now part of Roehampton University. Built by Harrison and Harrison in the 1920s, this organ fits neatly into our organ loft, enabling us to keep our original Lincoln case front.
Please contribute to Our Organ Appeal
Achieving our aim of installing our new organ is dependent on support. You may wishe to donate money in memory of a loved one; to support the church where you worship; to do your bit for the local community; or simply because you love music. Whatever your motivation, you will contribute to the spiritual and musical life of our community for generations to come and for this reason we home you will allow us to commemorate your donation through our sponsorship scheme.
Sponsoring an Organ Pipe or Stop
We invite you to sponsor an organ pipe or stop (a stop is a whole rank of pipes). Sponsors of stops and pipes will be invited to sign one of the organ’s visible pipes as a permanent record of their contribution to the musical life of St Peter’s Walworth. Pipes and stops can also be sponsored in memory of a loved one, or in celebration of weddings, baptisms or other important events.
Sponsoring an Organ Valve
Vital to the life of an organ are countless valves. These can also be sponsored.
Other donations
All donations to the Organ Appeal are very welcome, however large or small. To sponsor an organ stop, pipe or valve, please complete the form adjacent. If you have any questions then please contact Catherine Attride at the Parish Office.
