Mother's Union Outing - Summer 2009

Mother's Union

Mothers' Union is a Christian organisation with more than 3.6 million members in over 78 countries worldwide. Whatever their individual backgrounds, members are united in their commitment to supporting marriage and family life. Here at St Peter’s our branch of Mother’s Union has been running since June 2008.

Our branch leader at St Peter’s, Mrs Margaret Temenu, hopes to encourage more women in the Church to get involved. Mrs Temenu said:

“when I was young the Mothers’ Union was very important to married women in the Anglican Church in Nigeria. I used to follow my late mother to Mothers’ Union meetings, which in the Yoruba language was called ‘Egbe Aya Bishop’ which means the Society of Bishop’s Wives.”

“The Mother’s Union is a Christian organisation devoted to uphold marriage and to promote wider understanding of family life.”

“Being a member of the Mothers’ Union is an expression of my support for Christian family life. As a member of the Mothers’ Union I will pray and work to support my family and families everywhere.”
